Bargaining Units

Unifor Local 4304 is an ‘amalgamated’ local union with more than one bargaining unit/employer/workplace.  Learn more about our bargaining units here

Unit 1 - Kitchener Transit (City of Kitchener)

This bargaining unit is no longer active. Kitchener Transit was the public transit system that served the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo from 1973 until 2000. It replaced the old Kitchener Public Utilities Commission transit service, which had operated streetcars, buses, and trolley coaches in earlier decades. Kitchener Transit ran bus service throughout the community, carrying millions of passengers each year. On January 1, 2000, it merged with Cambridge Transit to form today’s Grand River Transit (GRT), which continues to provide region-wide service across Waterloo Region and as Unit 2 of Unifor Local 4304.

Unit 2 - Grand River Transit (Region of Waterloo)

Grand River Transit (GRT) is the public transit system serving the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, as well as surrounding townships in the Region of Waterloo. It was created on January 1, 2000, when Kitchener Transit and Cambridge Transit were merged into a single, region-wide service. Since then, GRT has grown into a modern system with dozens of bus routes, specialized MobilityPLUS service for riders with disabilities, and the ION light rail line, which opened in 2019. Today, GRT provides millions of rides each year and continues to expand to meet the growing needs of one of Ontario’s fastest-developing communities.

Unit 3 - Great Canadian Coaches

Great Canadian Coaches is a charter and tour bus company that has been serving passengers across Ontario for decades. Known for its distinctive fleet of comfortable motorcoaches, the company provides transportation for group trips, tours, school charters, sports teams, and corporate travel. Great Canadian Coaches has buses based in London, Cambridge, and Brampton, allowing them to serve communities throughout Southwestern Ontario and beyond. As part of Canada’s long-standing motorcoach industry, they carry on a tradition of safe, reliable, and affordable group travel. With a reputation for professionalism and friendly service, they continue to be a trusted choice for organizations and travelers across the province.
