Take a Stand – Join Unifor
Every worker deserves respect, fair pay, and a voice at work. Yet too often, employers make all the decisions—about wages, schedules, job security, and working conditions—without input from the people who actually do the work. That’s where Unifor comes in.
Unifor is Canada’s largest private sector union, representing over 300,000 members in industries ranging from transportation and manufacturing to media, health care, and retail. Our mission is simple: to build worker power so that ordinary people—not just executives and shareholders—have a real say in shaping their jobs and their futures.
When you and your coworkers join Unifor, you gain the strength of collective bargaining, protection under a collective agreement, and the backing of a union that fights for better wages, safer working conditions, and dignity on the job.
Why Workers Choose to Unionize
Better Pay and Benefits – Unionized workers earn more on average and are far more likely to have pensions, health benefits, and job security protections.
A Real Voice at Work – With a union, workers have a seat at the table. Collective agreements protect your rights and ensure your voice is heard.
Job Security – Unions negotiate rules around layoffs, scheduling, promotions, and discipline, shielding workers from unfair treatment.
Power in Numbers – One voice is easy to ignore. Together, workers can’t be ignored.
How Organizing Works
Organizing a union may sound complicated, but Unifor has decades of experience helping workers just like you. The process is confidential, legally protected, and designed to put power in your hands:
Reach Out (Confidentially) – Contact Local 4304’s Organizing Liaison. We’ll discuss your workplace concerns and outline your rights, all in confidence.
Build Support with Coworkers – Together, we’ll talk to your colleagues about the benefits of unionization and answer any questions.
Sign Union Cards – Once enough workers sign cards, an application is filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) for provincially-regulated workplaces, or the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) for federally-regulated workplaces. Your employer never sees who signed.
Vote for Your Union – The OLRB or CIRB (whichever applies) conducts a secret-ballot vote. If a majority votes “yes,” your workplace becomes unionized.
Negotiate Your First Contract – Unifor negotiators work with your local committee to secure fair wages, benefits, and protections that reflect the value of your work.
