October General Membership Meeting – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

To all Local 4304 members,

The October General Membership Meeting will be held via Zoom next Wednesday, October 21st, 2020 at 11:00AM and 7:30PM.  As a reminder, an RSVP to recordingsecretary@unifor4304.org will be required prior to the meeting for any members wishing to attend.  To connect to the meeting simply use the following link: https://zoom.us/j/5680262113

Some clarification needs to be provided since there seems to be some confusion as to how members connect to the meeting since there have been many more RSVP’s for the last few meetings than members who actually join:

  1. If you have submitted an RSVP you can simply use the link above to connect to the meeting.  No additional invites of any kind are sent out, or are required, for members to join the meeting.  If you have submitted your name you will be allowed to connect using the link already provided, the provided link is all you need; this link does NOT change from meeting to meeting, so bookmark it for future use.
  2. A confirmation email will be sent to you before the meeting indicating that, yes, your name has been added to the RSVP list.  Please note that this email may arrive shortly before the meeting when the RSVP list has been fully compiled since members may still RSVP right up until the meeting starts.  However, if you have submitted your name you can be assured you will be able to attend even if you don’t receive your ‘confirmation’ email until the meeting day, you don’t need the email to connect if you have already submitted your name.

General Meeting Minutes, Pre-Submitted Committee Reports, Financial Reports and Executive Meeting Minutes for the meeting will be linked in the Zoom chat as the agenda items progress. However, please make every effort to download these materials in advance from the union website and review them before the meeting if at all possible since not all devices can access the Zoom chat links and so the meeting business can progress more quickly.

Yours in solidarity,

Warren Schnurr

Cleaning Your Work Area and Lunchroom/Bathroom Use

To All Brothers/Sisters,

*Please remember it is mandatory to clean your work area whenever you take over another bus. Management is pushing this issue and for those who are not cleaning your work area, discipline will be given. It is all of our responsibility to protect each other. In speaking with a health and safety rep I was told that gloves and sanitizers are not available at satellite locations. We have brought forward these concerns to management and our health and safety committee are directly involved. If there are no gloves when you show up for a shift, fill out an H/S concern form and let your rep know. If you finish work at the garage after shift, replenish your gloves then for your next shift.

*Washroom facilities. We have had a number of complaints about members having to clean the washrooms before using them. This is disgusting. Let’s have a little courtesy towards each other. Since at most locations, we are sharing all the washrooms together it is very important that we leave the washroom in a manner that the next person can use it without cleaning it first.

*Unifor Regional is working on having a meeting for all regional locals via zoom sometime in November. Details are still being worked out but our regional director is looking for agenda items and to see how many are interested in attending this regional meeting. The regional area is KW, Cambridge, Guelph and Brantford. If you have any ideas for agenda items pertaining to transit and if you interested in attending please send me an email at president@unifor4304.org.

*COVID-19 cases are growing every day in Ontario and in the region, remember, cough into your elbow, wash your hands for 20 seconds as often as possible and wear a mask or face covering whenever possible and reach out to someone who is alone during this pandemic. A few minutes of your time means the world.

In Solidarity,

Tim Jewell – President Unifor 4304

GRT Bicycle Commuter Survey

We are wanting to gather data about the number of employees who are interested in commuting to and from work by bicycle. Tim Jewell and I are in discussions with management about the need for secure bicycle storage at all of of our Transit facilities. Please take the time to respond to this short 3 question survey by Saturday, September 26.

Clarification of a couple of things. By secure storage we mean something that is not accessible to the public but only to employees. This would be in contrast to the public bicycle racks that many operators have used over the years only to have their bicycle stolen. The question about a small fee – when we had bicycle lockers at Charles St. Terminal there was a $10/month fee to use them.

Thank you,

Paul Wagler

Last Chance For Strike Pay….

LAST CALL FOR……
Strike Cheques!!

In January 2020  Local 4304 was on strike for approximately 11 days.  Members who participated in picketing and other strike related duties are entitled to strike pay of up to $300/week for these duties.  During said strike and upon returning to work, multiple dates, times and locations were hosted for strike pay pick up.

It has been forwarded to the Executive board that not all deserving members had an adequate chance to collect this pay.  After consultation with Unifor National we have been told that we are able to collect a list of those who missed out and can submit a list to have these cheques reissued.

If you are in the position where you picketed or performed other related strike duties and were unable to make it to one of the pick up times please contact Tyler Kress no later than 11:59PM on Tuesday September 15th, 2020.  Once your attendance and participation are confirmed a list will be sent to Unifor National to have payment reissued.

Once it is known how many members are left to receive their pay the method and timing of distribution will be determined.

tylerkress4304@gmail.com

519-635-9729

Once payment is sent out cheques are issued they will only be valid for 30 days so cash them ASAP.
