By-Election Notice

FOR THE POSITION OF ‘UNIT CHAIR’ FOR ‘GRAND RIVER TRANSIT’

The Executive Board position of Unit Chair for Grand River Transit has become vacant. In accordance with the Unifor Local 4304 By-Laws and the Unifor Constitution a By-Election must be held within 60 days to fill this vacant Executive Board position. As of Wednesday, December 26, 2018 nominations for this position are now open.

The duties of the Unit Chair, among other things, are to oversee all the Stewards and Chief Stewards of their bargaining unit (GRT) and to coordinate all member grievances from their bargaining unit. Per the current Unifor Local 4304 By-Laws only members who have “12 months of permanent employment” are eligible to hold this office. This position is also only open to the members of the Grand River Transit bargaining unit.

If you are interested in running for this position, or know someone else who is, you may submit nominations to the Recording Secretary by e-mail at recordingsecretary@unifor4304.org, or orally at the January General Membership Meeting. If you are nominating another member they must notify the Recording Secretary of their acceptance of the nomination to stand for election before the close of nominations or the nomination will be deemed refused.

Timeline for this By-Election:

Wednesday, December 26, 2018 – Nominations Open for GRT Unit Chair position
Wednesday, January 16, 2019 – Nominations Close (at end of PM General Meeting)
Wednesday, January 30, 2019 – By-Election Day (2 weeks after General Meeting)
Wednesday, February 6, 2019 – Run-Off Election (1 week after Election, only if required)

The Unifor Local 4304 Election Committee will manage the by-election. The Election Committee will provide more election information, including polling times and how to vote closer to the by-election.
