WATERLOO REGION — The union representing more than 600 workers at Grand River Transit says a strike is possible next month if agreement isn’t reached on a new contract.

On Sunday, members of Unifor Local 4304 voted 98 per cent if favour of going on strike if a deal isn’t reached by midnight March 19, the union said Monday.

“There are serious matters related to working conditions that have to be solved before we can reach a new contract,” Local 4304 president Rick Lonergan said in a news release.

The local represents 644 drivers, services attendants and skilled workers at Grand River Transit.

The union says contract negotiations started in December. The previous contact expired at the end of 2016.
