Collect has began for the following : 2018 Legion Remembrance Day Charters

Collect has began for the following : 2018 Legion Remembrance Day Charters

2018 Legion Remembrance  Day Charters

By Mike Hogue

It has come to my attention that the Royal Canadian Legion Charters and Associations Charter for 2017 were not provided by Grand River Transit due to costs. After negotiations, they had to settle with a few school buses and a Mobility bus. This Charter is used for Transport to 5 Legion Halls around Waterloo Region for war vets, families, and the public (adults) for post-ceremony activities. $125 per hour x 2 buses for 8 hours is the going rate at GRT for this charter.

The Legion does not have the membership or finances they had before to cover the cost. This has been a long-standing charter with the P.U.C., and then Kitchener Transit and Grand River Transit since 1984. I feel the Region (GRT) should have donated or at best reduced the rate.

Next year marks the 100th year of the end of WWI. Armistice Day also falls on the same day next year. Remembrance Day is a time to give thanks to all veterans from all wars and conflicts past and present.

Something should be done because next year will be significant.  Allow me to suggest a solution.

I would ask all Unifor 4304 Members , anonymous monetary donation to cover the cost of the Remembrance Day charters, 100-year anniversary of the the end of WWI, and Armistice Day. I would present the donation as from the Members of Unifor Local 4304.

Remember, we can do these things because of them and their sacrifices.

E – Transfer set at 2017hoguiesheros@gmail.com

Please do not forget to send email with password for the E – Transfer

Cash Donations can be dropped off to Mike Hogue / Sonya Taha

Thank you.
